About Me

My name is Maciej Tarnowski, currently a PhD student at Faculty of Philosophy, University of Warsaw. I am a Principal Investigator in the PRELUDIUM 20 project "Moore’s Paradox in language and thought: towards a unified strategy of explanation" (2022-2025) funded by the National Science Center in Poland. For the Fall 2023 term, I am also a visiting student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (thanks to the support of Polish-U.S. Fulbright Commission).
I work extensively on philosophy of language, epistemology and philosophical logic; less extensively I occupy myself with experimental philosophy, social ontology and philosophy of mind. I was born, raised and educated in the city of Warsaw, which holds a special place in my heart (up there you may see blocks of Ursynów, where I spend most of my life). Apart from being a philosopher, I used to be a high-school debating coach and teacher - this job is probably the most rewarding and tough challenge I ever took. I am also a devoted fan of competitive debating (here is a World Championship Final I lost against an amazing Croatian team), chess, cooking and hitchhiking. |
Here you can also see some of my popular work - interviews, educational videos and translations:
An interview on epistemic paradoxes and all things philosophical (in English; here you can read it in Russian).
A short popular article on the complex Trump-Biden campaign dynamics (in Polish).
My Russian-to-Polish translation of Andrei Platonov's "On the first socialist tragedy".
And educational videos on how to approach philosophy-related motions in Oxford-style and British Parliamentary Debating:
